Baptism

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit"       Matthew 28:19

Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation and is necessary for salvation. It is the sacrament that frees a person from original sin and makes them a member of the Church. At Our Church, we offer baptism for infants, children, and adults. Contact us to learn more about the process.

  • Parents need to attend pre-baptism instruction before the baptism. Please call the Parish Office to register for the session.

  • Parents are expected to be registered and active parishioners of one of our churches St. Brigid, St. Edward, or St. Joseph. If they are from outside the parish, information will be needed from where they are currently registered/attending.

  • Baptisms typically take place after the during or after Masses on Saturday or Sunday.

  • Baptisms not celebrated during Lent or Advent.

  • Parents will need to choose a godfather and a godmother, or a sponsor for their child. At least one of the godparents/sponsors needs to be a baptized Catholic, and should be actively practicing the Faith. This is because their role is to help the parents of the baptized child in their responsibilities of raising the child in the Catholic Faith.

  • There is no fee or charge for baptism, but it is expected that parents are active, contributing members of time, talent, and treasure in the ongoing life of the parish.

  • In the event of serious health issues, an emergency baptism may be celebrated by a priest or deacon or even by any person celebrating with the form prescribed by the Catholic Church.
