Reconciliation

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You. I detest all my sins because of Your just punishments, but most of all because they offend You, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

Students in our PSR program receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in second grade.

Reconciliation, also known as Confession or Penance, is a sacrament that restores or fixes our broken relationship with God. When we sin, we break our relationship with Him, but God loves us – no matter what! He gave us the Sacrament of Reconciliation to call us back to Him. He wants to forgive us so that we can share in his love and friendship!

Our PSR program uses the Book Series “Signs of Grace” to help us with preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. “The Signs of Grace: You are Forgiven program tells the story of God’s great love for us. God created us to be in friendship with him, but that friendship was lost through sin. Our children will learn how the Sacrament of Reconciliation is an important part of God’s saving plan. God gives us his mercy and brings us back into friendship with Him when we sin after our Baptism. We strive to prepare your child to experience God’s mercy and love in his or her First Reconciliation.” (Augustine Institute: You are Forgiven Series)

As a parent/grandparent/guardian/parish community member, your role in faith formation is so important! We show our youth what to do, not with only our words, but our actions as well! We encourage all of you to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation as often as needed –and make sure our youth know you are going! If you are older than 7 years old and have not been Baptized, you are an adult who not yet Catholic, or even if you are already fully-initiated into the Catholic Church, but would like to know more about the Sacraments and our Catholic faith, please check out our RCIA page!
